New York, N.Y. (April 4, 2006) - Entertainers Basketball Classic CEO, Gregory Marius announced today that the EBC's second annual tripleheader celebrity and All-Star basketball extravaganza will take place on Sunday, July 23, 2006 at Madison Square Garden.
The EBC, the famous basketball tournament that has operated out of Holcombe Rucker Memorial Park for over 25 years, makes its return to The World's Most Famous Arena after a successful premiere last summer and will include a mini concert event.
Throughout the years the tournament has attracted fans from all over the world and included over 30 NBA professionals who have played in the EBC tournament such as; Allen Iverson, Kevin Garnett, Stephon Marbury, Baron Davis, Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter, Kenyon Martin. In addition, current music superstars P. Diddy, Jay Z, Fat Joe, Irv Gotti, Jermaine Dupree and Alicia Keys have all been involved with this league either as players or team owners. Additionally, celebrity figures such as NBA Commissioner, David Stern, former President Bill Clinton, NBA Entertainment President, Adam Silver, Academy Award winner Denzel Washington and actor Michael Rappaport have been involved with the annual tournament.
This years' charitable recipient will be DKMS, the largest bone marrow donor center in the world. DKMS works to save lives by providing bone marrow donors for patients suffering from life threatening diseases such as leukemia and lymphoma. DKMS mission is to facilitate more transplants between DKMS donors and patients in the United States. An estimated number of 35,000 children and adults could benefit from a bone marrow transplant each year, yet only about 7% actually find a match. Strong supporters of DKMS, Jennifer Lopez and Hip-Hop Icon Darryl McDaniels, DMC of Run-DMC constantly raise awareness about the shortage of minority donors. For more information regarding DKMS log on to www.dkmsamericas.org.
This years' tripleheader will include a NY High School All-Stars game followed by a celebrity and EBC All-Star Game. Players for all games at the "World's Most Famous Arena" will be named at a later date.
